Dhara smiled at Ashvin as he stood patiently beside her when she heartily accepted the various congratulations and wishes coming her way. She was ecstatic. Here she was, exactly where she wanted to be in her career, with a good, respectful husband and two beautiful daughters.
“Dhara, are you ready to go?” Ashvin asked. Lost in her reverie, Dhara hadn’t noticed when people had left the hall.
“Yes, sweetheart” she said, collecting her bag. “Where are the girls?”
“Oh they left with my colleague, he said he’d like to take them for dinner and that he’d drop them home by 9:00 P.M.” Ashvin answered.
Dhara smiled in appreciation. She would get some alone time with Ashvin. She needed to tell him how much he meant to her. She knew she loved Ashvin with her very being, he was the father of her children.
Why then, she wondered, did she go back to that moment in time when Satya was with her. Why was her speech a bitter throwback to their breakup. Why did she feel like her speech sounded like a taunt to Satya? Why?
