I released my wife and decided to clean up before dinner. On my way through the high ceiling corridor with a large lighted chandelier, my son came running towards me with a large smile. After giving him a hug and a kiss on the forehead, telling him to go help mommy, I continued towards my bedroom and entered the bathroom and closet. Changing quickly into something casual and laid back, I proceeded to the wash basin to wash my face. Wiping my face dry, I realized that work had taken a lot out of me when I saw the dark circles under my eyes. I sighed and continued towards dinner, when I saw three suitcases lined up by the wall of our bedroom.

It was then that I remembered that we, as a family, we supposed to go to Florida for a week to meet Catherine’s parents and so that the kids could see Disney World. I rubbed my temples when I realized that the meeting with HyperDrive was five days from now and that I would have to miss the trip to Florida. How would I possibly tell this to Catherine and my two angels? I sighed and walked towards the kitchen. It was a fairly large kitchen with an Island table in-between and bar stools. And at the far end on the kitchen was the square dining table made of dark wood and inlayed stone.
I put on a convincing smile and took my seat at the table next to Catherine, deciding to not tell them about my meeting yet or that I wouldn’t be able to accompany them for their trip. As I picked up my pasta with the fork, I saw Johnny with his mouth covered with sauce as he happily ate his food. Celina, on the other hand, was eating impeccably. I smiled at their contrasts and we continued to eat dinner. In between, I kept thinking of how to tell them that I won’t be able to come with the for their vacation trip. I remembered how excited my two children had got when I told them that we would be going to Disney World. They had been jumping like two bunnies in their excitement.

“Hey, are you okay?” My wife’s voice pulled me out of my thoughts. Her hand was over mine asking me genuinely as she had realized that I had barely touched my food. I put my fork down, sighed and decided to tell her. Celina and Johnny were busy laughing at their own food mischief. I looked my wife in the eyes and told her.
“Cathy dear, I don’t think I will be able to come to Florida with you three.” A look of surprise and disappointment flickered across her eyes. I continued, “I have an important meeting with my suppliers in a few days and I won’t be able to miss it. I am sorry, but you all enjoy your trip.”

She considered my statement for a few seconds and then said, “Mitchel, is it important?” I nodded at her. She sighed and placed her hand on my cheek gently, “Then stay back, honey. It is fine. I will handle these two munchkins.” She had a playful expression on her face and we laughed together.
“Thank you, love”, I said as I smiled at her.
