Hungry flies sting sore!!
SR Bose can literally comprehend the German Proverb “Hungry Flies sting more”. Who else can correlate the words like sting, hungry and honey in the best possible way! He believes in procuring latest gadgets for sting operations. Over the years, in front of his eyes, he saw how a technology becomes obsolete with a very short life cycle. At one point of time mobile phones with camera was a great spying device. It could ever record voice and video. But, in today’s content, even a kid will not plan a sting operation depending on mobile phone. With the advancement of technology, sting operators wanted to use camera which is placed on mundane and unsuspecting objects. A table clock, shirt button or wrist watch will not create suspicion in the victim’s mind and are very good places for hiding a camera.
Another important aspect is the strategy of using battery back up. Mostly, one needs to use a battery for power supply rather than having the luxury of connecting equipment to direct power source. It then becomes a critical decision to time the battery operation. More often than not, the spy equipment are activated by a motion sensor or light sensor and in a few cases they are sound activated too. This solves the problem of battery usage and longevity. The next critical question is the storage. Sting operator needs to decide about storing the data on a local disk or transmitting it over the air to a remote station. Generally, it is a tight trade-off. While transmitting data don’t need any local storage and reduces the equipment size drastically, it needs more power and power consumption rate will be high.
The stingRay corporation doesn’t like reactive stings. They believe that reactive or sudden stings are recipe for disaster. It’s like a high risk and high gain business. Many times, you take the risk, but produce a low quality stream because of lack of preparedness. StingRay corporation rather prefers a well rehearsed and full proof set with multiple devices hidden. Victims are trapped and arranged in most convenient places. It is made sure that there is no failure. Given a chance, StingRay would prefer a manual shoot behind a two way mirror. StingRay covert staff will swear and tell you about the fun they had while shooting the film of a well known politician and his girlfriend through a two way mirror. SR Bose himself became very careful about the mirror after the sting. Wherever he goes he will meticulously check if the mirrors are two way mirrors. First, he will put his fingernail on the mirror and check if there is a gap between the fingernail and the reflection. A true mirror will show a certain gap. Then, he will make the room dark and shine a flashlight on the mirror to see if there is an opening on the other side. Putting the face directly on the mirror by cupping eyes and trying to see the opening behind it is the last effort he does to satisfy himself. Inside his mind, he knows that he is still not safe. No test for a two-way mirror is foolproof. There only needs to be a very small opening in the wall for a hidden camera with a fisheye lens, and there won’t be any giveaway illumination on the other side, or any hollow sound, or anything to see with your cupped hands. “Hungry flies sting sore”…murmurs SR Bose in these cases and desperately hopes that hungry flies are not there around.Want to continue with the story??
