Are we suspicious by nature? No, I don’t think so.

The thoughts flitted across her mind and subconsciously, she looked around and it dawned on her that she was alone by choice. Milling with people, howling babies, clueless moms, indifferent dads, and the airport was bustling with activity in the wee hours of the morning. The airport staff with a plastic smile plastered on their faces could not care less. Delhi airport was swanky enough and easy to get lost in. Slowly she turned around. Nobody had come to see her off. She preferred it that way. Sara prided herself for being independent.

She took a chair and waited in the lounge for her flight to Mumbai. Delhi newspapers were such a bore. People were a different class altogether. There was nothing much to read and politics didn’t interest her. She closed her eyes and the past day’s events flashed across her mind. A literary event she had been invited to in a prestigious college. Small programs followed by some singing and dancing and finally motivate the students to read. Blah ! Who gets motivated by a lecture? She knew the psychology of the students. They all turned because it was compulsory to attend and hardly a few of the front guys and girls paid any attention.

She started, Good evening friends and started – so who would like to go on a date with Peter Parker. Suddenly everyone sat bolt upright. There were few giggles, exclamations and curiosity writ large on most of the faces. Pin drop silence ensued. Now she had everyone’s attention. She followed it up with a quiz and some discussion on literary pursuits of multitude of authors on various subjects. Write and get your creative juices flowing. That was the theme and the event passed off well and here she was waiting and a bit tired, longing to be back in the familiar space, peace and quiet of her luxurious flat in Mumbai.  She closed her eyes.

A small tap on her shoulder awakened her. She looked into the eyes of a young good looking chap, momentarily disoriented. Madam – boarding for your flight has started. Do you need any help? Oh! He was the airline ground support staff and in uniform.   Somehow she always admired men in uniform especially if they were pilots. They were tall and usually quite handsome. No thank you – she retorted.

She lugged her Birkin handbag and slowly moved towards the aircraft. Thankfully no more disturbances as she took her seat in the business class. Flights to Mumbai were always full. She settled comfortably, adjusted her glasses and started reading page 3. Hardly 2 days back and she was already feeling out of touch and longed to be back to Mumbai. A few moments later, she felt someone peering into her kindle. She glanced upwards thinking of a few choicest cuss words but fell short of words as she saw a familiar face trying to impress her and occupying the next seat. The person looked familiar, but she couldn’t place that person in her mind.
