The kids climbed into the car’s back seats with exclamations of joy. I caught Catherine’s eye and smiled at her before briefly kissing her and I going behind the kids to secure them into their car seats, strapping the belts carefully over each seat. I smiled and ruffled Johnny’s hair and kissed Celina on her forehead, before opening the door to the driver’s seat and sitting inside. I opened the garage door by pressing the button overhead and pulled at my seat belt before securely clicking it into place. Turning on the engine, it purred as I pulled out the Mercedes Benz S-Class onto the driveway, easing her onto the road before starting our journey towards the airport.
Character Carousal
It was approximately an hour’s drive to the airport from my home plus there would be less traffic at night. I read the time from the digital display and it read 21:03. We were on time for their flight at 23:40.I maneuvered the car on the highway sticking to the lane with the least cars and not changing the lanes too often.
It was 9 at night, yet there was a considerable number of cars out on the road. The night lamps were on overhead giving out yellow light to the roads, creating pools of yellow on the road as we passed each lamp. The initial fever of the trip had calmed down and now both Celina and Johnny were sitting peacefully, their little heads falling to sleep as the muffled but continuous hum of the tires on the road felt like a lullaby.
Follow This Character
As the traffic thinned, my mind wandered over to how Celina would react once she found out that I would not be accompanying them to Florida. I absolutely hate having to see her disappointed. Her round eyes would well up with tears moments before they would roll down her cheeks. Oh! She would be heart broken. This made me consider postponing the meeting and just joining them for the trip. I shook my head and told myself to pull myself back together. I had to stay back. I stuck to my decision and blocked all other thoughts, while concentrating on driving.
The signs overhead signaled that we were reaching near the airport as the signs pointed to International flights and Local flights. I continued on the path towards local flights and soon reached the parking spot.
