Richard remembered Shraddha from his old crew nearly a decade ago, and this was not how he remembered her. Shraddha had been the star hostess; the toughest passengers would melt to her calm and caring tone. With an infectious smile and wavy locks, she had been radiant and engaging. Now, she looked bitter and irritated- not a glimmer of her old self was to be seen.
“Shraddha!” Richard said surprised. “Richard, it had been so long!” Shraddha smiled and shifted her trolley sideways to give him a one-armed hug.
“Where have you been Shraddha? You lied to us all, you lost all contacts after you went off to get married!” Richard complained, a part of him itching to ask what was wrong.
“I…have been busy with my kids and the house..” She trailed off looking down at her shoes, not really wanting or knowing what to say.
“Nine years is a very long Shraddha, if you’ve the time I’d love to catch up.” Richard looked down at the woman he once knew. He felt sadness radiating from her in waves. Where was that perpetual bounce in her step gone?
“Yes,” as she agreed Shraddha felt a warm glow start in her heart. She had respected Richard, and had dearly missed her crew members. But the thought of reconnecting to someone would require her to share the developments in her life, and that’s when she would place the phone down.
It had been a regular morning on the flight. The take off had been smooth and everything was on the clock. Richard was relaxedly chatting while controlling the plane with his other two co-pilots. He had thus missed the entire action going on in the business class. Later, he had come to know from one of the air hostesses, Nola, that Shraddha had finally met her match. There had been a charming, built man with curls who had stolen Shraddha’s heart.
Over the next few months, Shraddha had taken time of her erratic schedules to go on dates with this mystery man. She had seemed completely smitten and Richard had seen the occasional pictures. Within five months Shraddha had quit to marry him and she was gone. That’s all Richard had known.
