The term was about to end and so were their courses. Students excelling in their respective fields were getting job offers. Satya received his letters the same day Dhaara received hers. Three leading national dailies had offered him a job of reporter- two from Delhi and one from Mumbai (then Bombay) and one of the leading channels had confirmed him as an anchor for one of their very famous shows. He wanted to join the one with its headquarters in Delhi, the news channel offering him the anchor’s job. Dhaara got three call-letters, one of them is from one of the most reputed theater groups of India. It was like a dream come true for her. She sprinted towards the building housing Satya’s classroom and almost collided with the Professor standing in the corridor. “Take it easy Dhaara… the world isn’t coming to an end.”

“I am sorry Sir!” Dhaara said sheepishly.

“Go…. Satya is inside.” The Professor said with a wink. Satya and her chemistry was that obvious. And also those were the times when your teachers were the people who also touched your personal lives along with your professional ones.

Blushing deep red, Dhaara managed to utter a meek “thankyou” and darted inside.

Satya was standing there along with his group of friends who also knew Dhaara very well.

“Hi Dhaara!” one of them raised a hand calling for her. She waved back and joined the group. One of them automatically vacated a spot near Satya.

All of them were talking animatedly about the job offers they had received. Satya was also ecstatic. He told Dhaara about the job he was going to say yes to. Dhaara beamed and said: “You won’t believe… I got a call from the Rangratna Theatre Group of Bombay (which is now Mumbai) and two more from Delhi.”

“That’s great Dhaara!” Satya exclaimed. “It was destined Dhaara. We were destined to be together… always. Now we will have our jobs in Delhi and the future life…” he said with a knowing smile.

Dhaara blushed again and said: “Oh common Satya. Don’t crack jokes. You know I would never drop a chance of joining Rangratna! You always knew that from the beginning. Now don’t tease me. Oh! I am so happy… for myself… for you and for everybody here!” she said looking lovingly at everyone in the group.

Satya nudged her with his elbow and said: “I am not teasing you Dhaara. We are in love and you know we can’t spend our lives living separately.”

Dhaara said smiling: “We don’t have to Satya…. you have such an amazing offer from Bombay”

Satya retaliated without realising the tone his voice took: “Why would ‘I’ have to go to Mumbai? I have always wanted to stay in Delhi… always! Being a Mass Com and Political Science student I know Delhi is where the action is.”

The group of friends now started retreating towards the door of the classroom. They knew… both of them needed some ‘alone’ time. They said their goodbyes and left the classroom.

“When did ‘I’ sprout in ‘Us’ Satya?” Dhaara said in a cold and unattached voice.
