“We have no plans Mr. Turner. Each plan starts and ends with money. Right now we are trying to make our ends meet. Meanwhile we are working on some good plays. The money that we receive from the Trust keeps us afloat but for how long it will be able to do so, we are not sure. So we are taking each day as it comes. We just keep our hopes afloat.” He smiled the same innocent 5-year-old’s smile and his family joined in.
Turner kept asking some more questions regarding Rangratna and all four of them contributed to the answers that SR wasn’t listening to anymore. He was trying to get acquainted with this new feeling.
He knew in that particular instant that why Dhaara had left him….. he was no match to the kindness and goodness in this man…. no match and never could be……. but could he try… could he do those good things that he used to plan in college? He hid his face in his hands and felt warm tears touch the palm of his hands. He hadn’t cried in many years. He didn’t know this feeling…. this feeling of smallness…. this feeling of achieving all the material things in life and still feeling so poor. He was happy no one could see him in his den. He raised himself from his recliner…. glanced one last look on the account statements and financial statements of Rangratna theatre and confirmed the figures of ‘Loss’ and ‘Debit’….. He then went to his desk and wrote a cheque of 20 lakhs in the name of Rangratna theatre. He knew the person who would do this work for him…. the one who would keep his identity hidden.
As soon as he signed the cheque… he felt a surge of happiness in him…. he had earned millions but none of those cheques and cash had made him this much happy. He turned back to look into the mirror and tried to find the Satya that had died many many years ago. He was sure he would find him. Because, SR had finally made peace with his past….. because, he knew now that Dhaara was with someone she was meant to be with…. two pure souls united by their purity and kindness… he felt himself turning a new leaf. He kept the signed cheque in an envelope…. stepped out of his den… and called his domestic help Ramesh. “Ramesh….I shall not be back home today night. If you want to go watch a movie with your family you can leave early. Have some good time with them.” Ramesh looked at his boss with wide eyes and he was about to have a heart attack when the boss smiled and gave a pat on his back.
SR…. unaware of all this….. stepped out in the cool breeze of the evening that was drawing near….. and smiled….. The way Satya always smiled before ‘The Shark’ had taken over!
What happens next? What do you think?
